Impotence is the inability for a man to have an erection and sustain it for the entire duration of sexual intercourse. This phenomenon is only called impotence when the inability happens very often. If the erection has not been achieved properly once or twice, it cannot be called impotence. Impotence is commonly associated with the self-esteem of a man. Apart from physiological causes there can be psychological causes for impotence. Changes in lifestyle can have positively affect changes in many aspects of a person’s life and this includes sexual life.
Causes of Erectile Dysfunction
Increase in people’s incomes and better jobs have led to many good things but people have less time to spend on simple relaxation. Now as the jobs are becoming more demanding the work pressure takes a toll on the person’s sexual health. If a person is fatigued he will not be able to perform well sexually. Similarly there are stresses such as financial and in such situations people are not able to concentrate on the desires of their partners. This leads to frustration in the relationship with the partner. A person may get overwhelmed with such pressures and during sexual intercourse may feel the pressure to have an erection.
Impotence Remedy and Erectile Dysfunction Treatment
It is a good idea to acknowledge the age factor and how it affects the time required for an erection to occur. This will put the person’s mind at ease and he will no longer think as if he is incapable sexually. The ability and the time to achieve an erection reduce as a man progresses in age. For instance, a man in his 20s will take less time to have an erection compared to a man in his 40s or 60s. This influence is often ignored by most couples and the man tends to become conscious of the time taken to have an erection. Once this happens the self esteem of the person gets affected almost instantly.
Psychological Causes for Impotence and Erectile Problems
There are few psychological disorders which account for more than 60% of the impotence cases. These are anxiety and depression. These may arise from any reason, be it due to financial worry or something else. Sometimes the opposite is true which means that it is impotence sometimes that causes depression and anxiety. Depression influences that area of the brain where sexual arousal takes place.
The drugs recommended for depression such as anti-depressants and tranquilizers also contribute to reduction in sexual desire. If there is a lack of communication which is causing the inhibition of sexual desire then overcoming it will not be difficult. But this is only possible when partners are open to communication with each other. Therefore depending on the cause of impotence the problem can usually be overcome.
