District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia and Guam all have different Cash for Appliance Clunkers criteria. Rebates for Energy Star efficient stoves, refrigerators, washers.

Cash for appliance clunkers is different in each state. Most states offer a mail-in rebate after the purchase of the new more efficient Energy Star appliance. Each state administers their own program, they have set the eligibility criteria based on their view of the state residents needs. The cash for appliance clunkers rebates is for the purchasers primary residence.

District of Columbia Appliance Rebates

The District of Columbia will use a mail-in rebate program beginning in April 2010. This program will encourage residents of DC to get rid of the older appliances (known as clunkers) and purchase Energy Star rated appliances. The new appliances are more energy efficient and are supposed to help conserve resources. The DC program will continue until funds are depleted.

DC will issue rebates for the following categories of appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Electric heat pump water heaters

The amount of the rebate will be based on the appliances' efficiency level.

District of Columbia does not requires residents to provide proof the clunker appliance has been hauled-away.

District of Columbia has received a total stimulus funding of $568,000.

Florida Appliance Rebates

Florida will also implement a mail-in rebate for the cash for appliance clunkers program. Florida will begin the program in April 2010 for two weeks. This time period also marks the beginning of Florida’s Earth Day Activities.

Florida will issue rebates for the following categories of appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Room air conditioners
  • Gas tankless water heaters

A straight 20% off the purchase price of a new Energy Star rated appliance will be rebated.

Florida does not require residents to show proof of recycling of the old appliances but they offer an additional rebate for proving the clunker appliance was recycled.

Florida has received a total stimulus funding of $17,585,000

Georgia Appliance Rebates

Georgia's mail-in rebate program will begin in February 2010. Georgia will offer its residents additional rebate amounts if they purchase an appliance that exceeds the Energy Star rating level.

Georgia will issue rebates for the following categories of appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Room air conditioners
  • Gas condensing water heaters
  • Gas storage water heaters
  • Gas tankless water heaters
  • Electric heat pump water heaters
  • Solar water heaters
  • Oil furnaces
  • Gas furnaces
  • Oil boilers
  • Gas boilers
  • Central air conditioners
  • Air source heat pumps

Customers will register online or by phone after purchasing the efficient appliance. Anyone who replaces a new freezer or refrigerator must certify that they will recycle the clunker refrigerator.

Georgia has received a total stimulus funding of $9,293,000.

Guam Appliance Rebates

The Territory of Guam will also administer a mail-in rebate program for the purpose of encouraging their residents to replace clunker appliances with new ones. This program is scheduled to begin in April 2010.

Guam will issue rebates for the following categories of appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Clothes washers
  • Room air conditioners
  • Central air conditioners

Guam residents are required to recycle the clunker appliances.

Guam has received a total stimulus funding of $166,000.
